Student Worker Conservation Corps Crew

Serve as a Youth Conservation Corps Crew member to install a public disc golf course on State Trust Land in Silver City.


This position is under the Youth Conservation Corps and as such the Crew will need to be between 16-25 years of age and a New Mexico resident. The position is a temporary, part-time, non-benefit eligible position. The expected end date is March 28, 2023 but is subject to change depending on funds and worked performed. 


THIS STUDENT POSITIONS IF FOR WNMU REGULAR STUDENTS (not Dual Enrollment) ONLY. If you are between the ages of 16-25 but not a WNMU student or are a Dual Enrollment student please apply through the Staff Position.  Job Details: Youth Conservation Corps Crew (hiretouch.com)

  1. Works under the direction of the crew leader to complete tasks in a timely manner.

  2. Completes a paid 3-day wilderness first aid certification course, an 8-hour online defensive driving training, and a 3-credit outdoor recreation course (SP2022) to receive college credit.

  3. Participates as a team in construction and project needs to complete the construction of a disc golf course.

  4. Operates light equipment (e.g. gas-powered auger) as needed.

  5. Perform a variety of duties related to building a disc golf course including, but not limited, to clearing brush, concrete work, GPS navigation, installing tee pads, moving rocks, carrying equipment over uneven terrain, mixing cement, raking and shoveling rocks, and installing and designing signage, etc.

  6. Participates in orientation, safety meetings, and other training as part of the job.

  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

  1. Job Knowledge: Demonstrate an excellent work ethic, dependability, motivation, and ability to communicate and work as part of a team. Must be dependable and hard-working. Willing to work outdoors in a variety of settings to accomplish the project. Willing to walk over uneven terrain carrying hand tools in variable weather conditions.

  2. Working Conditions/Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations): Outside grounds and construction environment. May be required to lift, push, and pull equipment and materials on a constant basis up to 50lbs. Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, sit on floor and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces including stairs and steps in construction sites. Must be able to visually and auditory assess situations to ensure safety. Must be able to climb ladder and work in restricted workspaces. Must be able to follow all safety protocols. This position requires mostly work outside during all seasons. Work involves exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.

Must be a New Mexico Resident between 16-25 years of age. Knowledge of and interest in disc golf is a plus.
