This position assists with a variety of Outdoor Program-related tasks, including staffing the outdoor gear rental facility, outdoor activities, and other duties as assigned.
Outpost Work-Study duties include: Reliably opening, managing, and closing The Outpost during scheduled business hours (including weekends;) organizing and managing student engagement events, gear inspections and inventory as assigned; educating patrons about all Outdoor Program trips, rental policies and procedures; participating in all in-service training sessions, mandatory meetings, and staff development workshops; preparing gear for university-sponsored trips (i.e. stuffing sleeping bags, loading and unloading vans;) maintaining gear rental database and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will demonstrate an excellent work ethic, dependability, motivation, and ability to reliably work independently; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google sheets and social media a plus
Outdoor Program Research Associate: Duties are primarily related to administrative support. The successful incumbent will arrange and attend local and regional meetings, prepare agendas, social media posts, and other written documents, and engage with outdoor stakeholders including other students and the public. Student will participate in some weekend activities as required. Excellent communication skills are required for this position.
Must demonstrate interest in outdoor recreation and/or education; excellence in communication, team work, problem-solving and leadership are required skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to engage in conversation with patrons; ability to discuss equipment options and applicability for patrons needs; ability to check-out and check-in rental equipment utilizing rental agreement and assist patrons with an online interface; ability to answer The Outpost telephone and direct messages and questions to the Director or other appropriate staff; ability to demonstrate the proper use of equipment to patrons; ability to assess needed repair of equipment; ability to lift 30 pounds overhead; ability to communicate and respond to texts, emails, and phone calls in a timely manner;ability to work weekends and regular business hours; willingness to work with students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds; ability to foster an inclusive space for students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Knowledge and skills with Microsoft Office and Google Sheets Preferred. Strong applicants with little outdoor experience should apply.
