Bicycle Program Lecturer/Coordinator

Provide expertise and support in the planning, implementation, instruction, and evaluation of the Bicycle Program and program coordination.

Candidates selected for interview will need to provide a teaching demostration as part of the interview process.

  1. Assists with development, building, and planning of the Bicycle Assembly and Repair Technician Program.
  2. Oversees the development of course offerings/schedules for each semester. Advises prospective students.
  3. Teaches a minimum of 12 credits/semester within the program in hybrid, face-to-face, and online formats as appropriate.
  4. Meets assigned classes, facilitates, and evaluates student learning, submits grades by established deadlines, and maintains student records in accordance with FERPA regulations.
  5. Submits class syllabi and class book list to the department by the dates specified. Maintains regular office hours for students to be able to address concerns and questions.
  6. Delivers the content for the assigned classes, provide guidance on required assignments and grade assignments.
  7. Ensures that each program/class contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency.
  8. Creates and maintains a safe environment for student, staff, and visitors.
  9. Manages tools and equipment assigned to the classrooms and programs. Inspects, repairs, and teaches proper handling of tools and equipment. Maintains classroom equipment through evaluation, inspection, ordering parts, and repair.
  10. Assists in recruitment, inclusion of underrepresented groups, advising, and retention of students as well as support and provide direction for a K16 student pipeline into the Bicycle Assembly and Repair Technician Program.
  11. Participates in the continued development of the Bicycle Assenmby and Repair Technician and Cycling Education Technician Program curriculum, programming, credential, and grant activity and development.
  12. Supervises, monitors, organizes, and facilitates the bicycle technician shop, under the guidance of the Program Director and Program Manager.  
  13. Provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions. Supervises assigned staff in accordance with WNMU personnel practices including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, etc. Participates in the process of ongoing personal and professional development. Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts (internal and external). Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU philosophy.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
  1. Job Knowledge: Knowledgeable in bicycle assembly, bicycle construction, repair, shop design, shop maintenance, retail, sales, and cycling trends. Ability to work with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff.  Knowledge and experience working in diverse university setting sand accommodating learning needs. Commitment to student persistence, retention, and success and to continual professional development. Experience with curriculum and supplemental instruction materials development. Experience utilizing technology to teach, evaluate, and assess student learning. Experience with data-driven and assessment-for- learning decision-making. Experience working with multifaceted stakeholder groups. Experience working with students in lab situations. Ability to use student evaluations for continued course and instructional improvement. Must be knowledgeable of university policies and procedures, and state and federal laws and regulations that apply to University processes. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community.
  2. Working Conditions/Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations): Normal office, technical classroom, and outdoor environments. Requires physical work, lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds. Ability to handle outdoor conditions for a majority of the work of time. Ability to move around campus and outdoor settings.  Ability to work flexible hours to include some nights, weekends, and holidays. Required to travel for trips. Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, climb, sit on floor and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces including stairs, steps, hills, mountains, etc. Must be able to ride all types of bicycles and teach bicycle riding. Must be able to visually and auditory assess situations to insure health and safety. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting, walking, and riding bicycles. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.

Bachelor’s Degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in relevant field preferred. Three or more years of teaching/training experience or 3+ years of leadership and development training required. Six years of progressively responsible leadership in the bicycle industry including extensive experience in bicycle assembly, repair, shop maintenance and retail. At least 3 years of supervisory experience or equivalent required. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Western New Mexico University is a state funded University. As such, all position are dependent on state appropriations and available funding sources.

a. First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire.
b. New Mexico Driver’s License.
c. Must pass a Defensive Driving Course within 2 months of hire date.
